Obesity Programme

Obesity is a common health problem affecting millions of people around the world. There are several factors that may contribute to obesity, such as unhealthy dietary choices, eating disorders, underlying illness, certain medications, a sedentary lifestyle, anxiety and hereditary factors as well.

From the Ayurvedic perspective, one of the major reasons for obesity is an imbalance in the Kapha dosha. Ayurveda also says that people with a dominant Kapha constitution are more likely to gain weight than Pitta or Vata dominant individuals. Therefore, people with an imbalance in their Kapha energy have to work extra hard to avoid gaining that unwanted weight.

Ancient Ayurvedic texts have described eight undesirable conditions of the body called as Nindya Prakriti among which obesity or Medoroga is one. Individuals with obesity tend to have overly sterile fats or medas that malnourish other essential dhatus of the body. When fat metabolism is hampered followed by an increase in Kapha, obesity is the result.

Panchakarma Treatment

The Panchakarma treatment in Ayurveda is a five-step therapy which works extremely well in removing the toxins from your body. Some of the therapies of Panchakarma that may be recommended especially for weight loss treatment in Ayurveda are Virechana or purgation therapy, Basti or medicated enema and deep tissue massages – Mardanam and Udwarthanam. The Mardanam and Udwarthanam massages use herbal powders and oils to eliminate body stiffness and remove any blockages. Sesame oil may be used along with other herbs in the massage to promote soft skin and reduce the fat tissues. The oil opens up the pores of your body, increases tissue heat and stimulates the metabolism of fats.

Another most preferred Panchakarma Ayurvedic treatment for weight loss is Abhyangam treatment. It uses special oils like Triphala, Kaphaghna, Valiya Lakshadi, Eladi Thailam, Sainndhavadi Thailam along with steam bath to induce sweating and reduce cellulite and subcutaneous fat. Besides, it also nourishes your skin and eliminates body odour.
